It is Written It is Sealed

Do you often experiences an awareness of coincidences?  Or can they be called miracles? Are you left in wonder about the events? I read once that there is no such things as coincidences but just small miracles.

Over the past few weeks my daughter, Lynne and I have been discussing topics that come to us on a weekly Wellness Gathering ZOOM. We do not plan what topic to discuss before hand, only wait to what comes into our awareness just before the Gathering.

The last topic was just that. A couple of things happened that inspired me to acknowledge the feeling of a "miracle".

I happened to listen to a Eckhart Tolle Video Transcending Our Stories  where Eckhart addresses not making someone wrong. That theme lead to discussion  this on Wellness Gathering.

Added to this theme comes from this week of the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kipper.

Question: How can I overcome  seeing the wrongness in me and others?

Take Away: This is a heavy feeling question and needs a follow-up question. “What is right about this?”

Solution:

1) Self Exploration- What do I enjoy? What things are easy for me to let go? What things am I resisting?

2) New Beginnings- Do we really need new beginnings or             can we rest in the fact that blessings are on the way?

3) Connection- What way do I value others in my life?

My awareness was profound to this event. How can it get any better than that?

Summer-time Hydration And Why Our Body Needs Water

The Institute of Medicine advises men to drink three liters (101 fluid ounces) of water per day and for women, 2.2 liters 74 fluid ounces). During the summer months, we tend to perspire more and lose even more water throughout the day. That means the skin is working harder, and we need to replenish the body's largest organ by drinking more water.

Drinking plenty of water is extremely important and highly underrated even though dehydration is common and may have frightening consequences.  Since 50 to 70 percent of our body mass is composed of water, including skin, tissues, cells and organs (1), water is essential for Active Wellness.

When dehydration occurs, the body does not have enough water for its basic vital functions. Watch out for these symptoms of mild to moderate dehydration (2): Increased thirst with dry mouth. Unusual feelings of fatigue or sleepiness; decrease or lack in urine output, headache, dry skin, dizziness, tearlessness,  constipation and leg cramps.

Symptoms of severe, dehydration include (2) Lightheadedness that stops you from standing or walking normally, Drop in blood pressure (can lead to shock) Rapid heart rate Fever, Poor skin elasticity, lethargy and/or confusion, actually passing out or blacking out, swollen hands, feet and legs. Our bodies lose water daily through perspiration, breathing and the entire, digestive/excretion process, We naturally replenish these losses through the consumption of food and beverages, but depending on individual diets, may not hydrate enough.

A Thanksgiving Address to Water  “We give thanks to all the water of the world. We are grateful that the waters are still here and doing their duty of sustaining life on Mother earth. Water is life, quenching our thirst and providing us with strength, making the plants grow and sustaining us all. Let us gather our minds together and with our minds, we send greetings and thanks to water." A quote from  Braiding Sweatgrass nonfiction book  by Robin Wall Kimmerer (Page 311

Wildfires Experience

2021 July 19 It is evening and we were sitting outside our Travel Trailer at NK'Mip Park, Osoyoos BC.  The skies have been filled with smoke most of the summer due to the wild fires that have popped up in the area. The temperatures are in the mid 30C. Hot and smoky.  Park security was stopping at each site to give us an evacuation alert and to pack up important things and be ready at any moment to leave the Park. This was an new experience for us and we had to make a decision as to what to take. The first thing came to mind was the our computers and pass code book- our life line to everything we filed, passports, SIN cards, and a change of clothes, medications, wallets, credit cards, Waterfall water system, nutritional supply, a copy of the books we had published. We packed some food for the day

At 3:30am there was an exodus of summer vacationers leaving the park. Later a Osoyoos Fire truck drove through the park waking everyone up to start leaving and muster at Buy Low Foods. It was a rush to make final decisions of what to do with the power, propane and water. We choose to shut everything off, leave no way to keep the frig running.

We arrived at 5:00am and sat there for a long while wondering what was to come of the day and how long we would out of the park. I was taking pictures and posting them on Facebook to let our family and friends know of our situation. As the day went on several close by friends had offered us a bed in their homes, if needed. The was over whelming

As we drove around to see what was happening we watched the action of the water bombers filling up from the lake. It was a eerie feeling the see the fires raging across on the East side and  orange smoky skies reflect on Osoyoos Lake.

A few of the gas stations were out of fuel, however, we did find one to fill the car. The rest of the day we drove around getting another view. Many others were doing the same. Some Campers were settled in for the duration in various parking areas, while others may have returned to their homes, cutting their holiday short.

The skier were clear further west so we drove to Keromoes for a picnic lunch, buying something from the store as the few restaurants were full. We found  where to register as an evacuee and to let them know we were doing well. Closer to evening we had to look for a place to stay so we accepted friends who lived in Oliver, so we could be close by Osoyoos.

Thanks to Greg Reely for the night photo.

We keep in touch by the messages posted on Facebook as to when it is safe to return. The fires have spend southeast into the mountain threatening many homes. The overworked Wildfire Volunteers are doing what they came to protect them.

Hughenna's Story

With a labor of love from the children of Hughenna (1902-1991) this book has arrived. It is dedicated it to her many descendances.

She tells her story of leaving Ontario with her family in 1906 to homestead in Saskatchewan, growing up and attending a one-room school, becoming a teacher and teaching in a few of the one- room schools that dotted the prairies in those early years.

She goes on with her married life during the depression and raising a family in an unmodern home.

The last section are the memories from her children and grandchildren. Many photos have been inserted throughout, which also tells a story.

(1980) A quot from her life's account "I don't think we had any troubles than did our pioneer grandparents or parents. I have a lot to be thankful for, my seven children all had a fairly good education and seem to be able to make their way in the world. I have twenty-four grand children of whom I am very proud and pray that they all have as good and happy life as I have had

Special appreciation to the editor and publisher, Studio-eh Design for making this possible.

Remembering Mother

One hundred and nineteen years (119) ago today Laura Hughenna Rutley was born in 1902 at home in Finch, Ontario.

She came to Saskatchewan during the "Homestead Fever" times with her family to take up a new life on the prairies. They settled west of Cut Knife in the Dufferin Area. She was educated in a one room school and went on to complete her education in Wilkie and Normal School in Saskatoon, getting her teachers certificate. After a teaching career in a few prairie schools she married Ovide Bertrand and settled on a farm east of Cut Knife, Gallivan. They raised a family of seven children.

Lorraine, Arthur, Clare, Mary, Evelyn, Lucille, David

Her memories are now being set to print in a book for her descendants to remember. Their genealogy has been up dated reflecting five generations.

Hughenna's Story will out this year.
