Why Do We Save Recipes?

Saving recipes most be a Hoarding Addiction Syndrome!

Over many years I clipped, copied and pasted small slips of paper that had recipes of all kinds on them. I filed them into recipe boxes, books and folders. I marked them into categories, according to ingredients and subjects.

I even rescued a large accumulation of recipes from an aunt when she passed away. That doubled my collection! I carried them from my old house to my new one and placed them carefully into a Big Plastic Box for safe keeping. To my knowledge my aunt never used these recipes, nor did I.

The other day I was looking for a Five Roses Guide to Good Sauce, Lake of the Woods Milling Company Limited recipe book. I had to dig through that Big Plastic Box.

After a struggle, the size of  “Jacob’s struggle with G-d”, I knew I had to let go of this collection. Finally I mastered this Hoarding Addiction Syndrome and released  these once revered recipes.

Oh, but wait! There were treasures in that Big Plastic Box!  Now THEY have been saved in a neat package and will be stored safely with my others treasures, which I will set aside for another time when I will have go through this struggle again, or should I let my children do away with them?

Last Mountain Lake Winter

Everything is covered in white and the temperature is below freezing
As we look out over solarium window we see the chickadees and nuthatches feeding from the bird feeder. The drop seeds they do not want, which fall onto the snow under in feeder.

Two frisky squirrels hop from branch to branch of the trees down to where the seeds lie. One squirrel, with a damaged ear, knows he is being observed from the window. He looks at us from the tree trunk swishing his tail. Randal always has a pail of peanuts at the book door, so he takes a few, goes out side on the back deck and toss one in he direction.  The squirrel stands on his back legs waiting for the peanut to come his way. Into his mouth he picks up the peanut, turns it around so it fits into his mouth and then dashes off through the snow, across the yard and bushes to find a "safe" hiding place. He vigorously digs in the snow far down that only his tail is showing. Once the peanut is buried he pats the snow down and he scampers back for another peanut. This time runs up the tree and sits high in the branches to eat it.

Occasionally he comes up on to the back deck looking for more peanuts. In the meantime the other squirrel is not aware of the find our damaged-ear, brave squirrel is doing.

Occasionally Mule deer strolls through our back year always looking for way to eat from the bird feeder. They live in Buena Vista and Regina Beach. They eat almost anything as they travel through.

New Friendship Made Easy

This afternoon was very pleasurable when I had a visit from two enthusiastic women, whom I had met at a RWN luncheon some time ago and also at the Staples Health & Wellness Expo.

Linda Painter was winner of a Nikken Spa Gift Bag from my display at the Expo and Laurie Schnell is a member of Care From The Core Board of Directors.   Care From The Core.   Linda is a Creative Designer who owns and operates  Linda's Sewing Room  Custom Design and Sewing. She specializes in wedding gowns that show such wonderful details that any bride would feel proud to wear.
Linda and Laurie are in partnership in the business of  Life Balance With Laurie which “help one to achieve balance from within” with Quantum Wave Lasers and Essential Oils.
I had the opportunity to share the Nikken Products with them. They were treated to a Magnetic Shiatu Massage, which totally relaxed them, as they reluctantly did not want to get up from the sleep system.
It was so very nice to share similar ideas on wellness and alternatives. I am grateful to have been able to welcome Linda and  Laurie into my life.

1940 & 1950 Winter Memories

(This was written for the Regina Women’s Network December 2010 Newsletter.
I added a couple of pictures)

My early memories of this time of year are when I grow up on the family farm near Cut Knife, SK during the 40’s & 50’s. Our house had a kitchen, living room, porch and one large upstairs bedroom. My 6 siblings and I were raised in a happy and nurturing environment. There were usually 5 of us children home at one time. My fondest memories were of sweet ordours of Mom’s baking. She also would make candy by boiling sugar and syrup and pour it on the snow that sat in a tub on the back of the coal burning stove. I loved the funny designs it made.
The tub of snow melted and the water was used for washing clothes or for us to bathe in. The bathing always took place in kitchen, using a large round tub, and generally on a Saturday afternoon.
One’s home could never escape the noise of children and we were no different. During our play we often ended up fighting for our “rights”. On winter days and evenings I would enjoy playing outdoors in the large snowdrifts around our home.  The tunnels my siblings & I made were big enough for us to crawl and even sit up in. I had to help with the “chores”. These would consist of bringing in the wood & coal for the cook stove, going to the barn to care for the cattle, chickens and pigs.

The one-room school Christmas concerts were the high light of the season. The songs, funny plays, and anticipation of Santa Clause delighted me greatly.  I remember Mom bundling me in a snowsuit and Hudson Bay blankets for the sleigh ride to the concerts. Cars had difficult times running on the country roads in the winter. The 1953 Galivan High School Play "Our Dream House" with Lorraine Bertrand (me), Herb Wilkinson, Kay Buglas and Daune Dillon in the wings.

In 1951 when I was 13 years old Dad bought us skis for Christmas. I would spend many hours skiing down the hill that was behind our barn. I never was bored for something to do.
The most comforting of all memories were the bedtime stories Mother read. These stories still linger in my head.
I had to walk half a mile to school and being bundled warmly with scarves & mitts I could hardly see were I was going. The snowdrifts took great effort to walk through.

A Morning Routine

My day usually starts at 6:00a.m.with a set routine. Before I get out of bed I pave my day by putting me attentions on the daily activities that need to be done from a list I made the night before.  This keeps me focused on things of importance.

On rising, I head for the kitchen to filter, optimize and boil PiMag Water for my morning drinks. For the first drink I take two teaspoons of ground Flax Seed with ¼ tsp from a mixture of Cayenne Pepper and Turmeric and 1 oz from a concoction of PiMag water, Lemon , Garlic and Honey mixture and add a cup of hot water. This is only one of my medicinal drinks in the morning! I steep Dandelion Tea for a drink later.

In the solarium I sit for a 30-minute meditation, listening to meditative music, drinking the Flax Seed drink, and using the Biaxial Body Energizer. I also use the Egyptian Healing Rods during this time. This brings a sense of appreciation for the good feelings I have and sets the tone for the day.

I mix one teaspoon of Jade Greenzymes in a glass of cold PiMag water to take with my Nikken Wholefoods Nutition.  A shot of Ciaga-v gives me the antioxidants I need for the day.

My morning exercise can consist of some yoga, lifting lightweights and wearing my Cardio Strides. I generally walk several times up and down the stairs, when it is too cold and icy to take a 20minute walk out doors.

My personal care consists of a shower using the PiMa Ultra Shower System.  The True Elements Skin Care prepares my face for a base of Mary Kay Make up

I drink the Jade GreenZymes with the before-breakfast nutrition supplements. A cup of Healthier Coffee is enjoyed as I work in my office. The Kenko Light give me the daylight light I need and it makes reading my emails much easier without eyestrain.

Now, I’m on to my breakfast, of fresh Pomegranate, Pineapple, Cantaloupe and Blueberry with plain yogurt and cottage cheese. I sprinkle 1 tablespoon of Hemp Seed and any kind of nuts I have on hand.

You can see that I have “discovered it and I am living it” with the Wellness Home Products.

New Desk Lamp

It is good to be able to work in a clean, re-organized office. I thought it is a paperless age, then how come I am buried in paper? How long do I need to save things? It is starting to feel better already to see the unneeded files be destroyed.
I have added a new lamp to make my office to have light more like the middle of a sunny day.

The Full Spectrum Lamp  is giving off a softer light and it is so much easier on me eyes. I love it!  Follow this link to my Nikken website.

Learning Curve

I have just learned to walk and to navigate! With Randal's encouragement and guidance I have conquered this technology. It feels great to be able to accomplished new things.

I am calling my site "Living Timelessly", which expresses where I am in my life and beliefs. I am very grateful for people who have entered into my life and the experiences they bring to me.

That remains me of a quot from Charles Dickens:
"I never could have done what I have done without the habits of punctuality, order, and diligence, without the determination to concentrate myself on one subject at a time."
