On Our Way

So much has happened since my last blog, that I do not know where to start..

The summer went very fast as Randal & I continued to sort, organize, give away and sell our possessions. We are only taking what we need the Open Range Travel Trailer. We were anxiously waiting for the house to sell and had set our plans to leave Buena Vista by September 15th.

September came and so did customers looking at the house. Jeff, from Sutton Reality, worked hard with the sale of the property. We accepted an offer that came in and we really had to push to finalize everything, as well as pack and empty the house, garage and sheds. We took the remainder to Randal's Mom's garage.

We were out on  September 15th, our first place to take our trailer was Lumsden Riverside Camp site. We stayed there while we finished with with the packing and eliminating.

Now was time to hit the road for Calgary, leaving on September 17th stopping in Medicine Hat where we boon docked in an old Walmart packing lot. There were several other campers and truckers spending the night there, so we were not alone.

We arrived in Calgary on Sunday afternoon and spent the time with Lynne, Kerry and the girls before moving the trailer to Cochrane Bow RiverEdge Camp site. We will be here until October 17th when we head west.

Summer Fun

There was exciting times over the August long weekend here at our home in Buena Vista!

Lynne, Kerry, Kaney, Lexi and Nikki visited from Calgary.
They camped out in the house, while Randal & I took to our Open Range Travel Trailer.

We had picnic meals with paper and plastics. The fresh veggie from my garden, was a real treat.

Everyone enjoyed the sunny warm weather.

This was especially pleasing to Kaney, when she purchased my car for $1.00. She now is of age to drive. Learning to navigate the streets in Calgary has given her the confidence to drive on the highways.

The Big Mug's Travels

It started on July 6, 1960 in Germany when my travelling companions, Marion and Jacqui and I were "Auto-stopping" through Europe.

We were hitch-hiking in the Bavarian Country of southern Germany and had arrived in Munich on July 5,1960.

We had  been  in the Bavarian town of Oberammergau to seen the "Passion Play".

Here are quotes from my journal from that day:  "An American soldier picked us up and went out of his way to take us to Munich. He drove us through a pretty part of the country, a small road that run by a stream. We arrived in Munich by 11:30 am where the soldier dropped us off. We found the American Express Office, where we picked up mail from our families. We took a tram to the Youth Hostel, where we spent the night."

The next day July 6,1960, we took a tram to the out-skirts of Munich, where we could "auto stop" to Dachau to see the Nazi Concentration Camp.  (I will write more on this trip in a future entry in this blog).

After we returned from Dachau, we spent the rest of the day walking around Munich "by the time 5:30 p.m. arrived we were off to find the Hofbraeuthaus. We had difficult time finding it. An old fellow asked us what we were looking for and took us right to it. It was a big beer drinking place filled with people. We had something to eat and a beer. An older guy took an interest in us and decided to take us back to the Youth Hostel".

Before we left, "We walked out with 3 big mugs"!

We carried them with us in our small duffel bags for the next 8 months while worked and hitched through Europe.

I had mine with me for the past 51 years.

For the past few months I have been sorting, selling and giving things away so Randal & I can move into our new  "Open Range" Trailer.

This Big Mug was one of many things that had to go.

On June 19th I donated it the the Regina Beach Art and Craft  "Trash and Treasure Sale"

I felt guilty and sorry for giving it away.

Randal & I went to the sale, found it sitting on a table looking so forlorn.

As a final memory of it's journey, I had a picture of me holding it lovingly!

90 Years of Giving

Regina Hadassah-WIZO celebrated their 90th Anniversary on May 15, 2011 honouring their member at the Annual Campaign for Women.

The program included a presentation of a red rose to each member in attendance;  a short history-video of Regina Hadassah WIZO's 90 years, with interviews of some of the members; and an up to date report of the  CHW's programs and projects in Israel by CHW President, Marla Dan.

The video was produced by Penny and Steve Wolfson from Wolf Sun Production from Regina.
The pictures were taken by Randal Martin, from Studio eh Design.

On the Move

Ice Fishing Shack on Last Mountain Lake
We found a temporary place for us to live while we organize our permanent living quarters!

Picture was take this morning while we were on an early morning walk.

This is in keeping with "Tiny Home" concept.

It has been a very busy time for Randal and I these past few weeks.

Our RV Trailer has arrived at the dealer's and will be ready for us to bring home in a week or so.

We purchased a Red Ram 350 with double rear tires and our house is up for sale.
