Christmas Day Visitors

It was a pleasure to have a visit from Lynne, Kerry, Kaney, Lexi and Nikki. We started out with a walkabout around NK'Mip RV Resort and Spirit Ridge to see the Festival of Trees.

It was a sunny warm day at 6 C so we were able to sit outside!

Seasons Greetings

This year the first Chanukah candle is lite on December 24 and the eighth one will be lite on January 1.

Randal and I thought we would get an early start be making 'Sufganijot' otherwise known as 'Jam Busters'. We purchased a deep fryer, olive oil,  found a recipe on Face Book to follow, set up our RV kitchen and got to work. The dough was made in a large plastic bag. This method was new and it was questionable when we saw the results.

Now I know how to put jam in the middle!!! They are better eaten when they are freshly made.

So Happy Chanuhak and a Merry Christmas.

Harvesting Turmeric

Leon grows turmeric in a green house. The flower has no purpose but looks good.

Leon sells it to a local Natural Food Store in Asheville NC.

Leon's Garden

Leon composts the spoiled vegetables for a local store in Black Mountain NC. He shows off the insects that helps break them down. The left over grains from a Black Mountain NC brewery is then spread over the pile.

Fields of Sweet Potatoes are being harvested. The vines are cut back and rolled over to act as a cover crop for the winter months on the next patch.

Kayla drives the tractor to take the sweet potatoes to the house to be washed.

It was my job to wash the barrows of sweet potatoes.

A swarm of bees tried to settle into an empty hive, then another swarm came to see what was going on! The two groups fought for same hive. Leon said the bee had not accomplished anything so left later.
