Our First Holiday

Our First Holiday/Away Honeymoon

Going to North Carolina

January 1, 2008
It was minus 26 degrees, when Randal & I  left our home in Buena Vista at 6 am . We had loaded the car the day before with Leon’s sculptures, food, and personal effect. We headed to Regina and taking number ___ to Weyburn. The sun came up to a clear sky. We made a quick stop for coffee before we headed on to Estevan. We gassed up and had breakfast. Then we were on to Portal and the US border. We checked in with the Canadian office to register Randal’s computer and camera.
When we got to the US check point, we were well investigated. Our car was checked, Randal was asked if his was someone else  and then we were asked to go inside their office. We were questioned separately about were we were going and what we had in our car. And then were asked to sign our pass ports. When we had received them 3 months before we forgot to sign them. After a half hour delay we on our way again.
Our destination for the day was Fargo North Dakota. The high ways were good and the weather was clear and clod. We made a pit stop at Minot and gassed up in Harvey, another pit stop in Carrington.
We arrived in Dakota at 3: 30 pm , called my cousin Louie Bertrand, Uncle Wilfred’s son,  from just a few blocks from his place. When we arrived at his street it was heavily decorated with Christmas lights. Louie had gone out with lights to complete with his neighbour across the street. His living room was full of a Christmas village display and many other ornaments and a tree.
It was good to see him again after eight years. He came up to Cut Knife for the Bertrand reunion in 2000. He is one cousin who is in touch with all his family and has a great interest in hunting. He has lived in Fargo all his life. That evening he took us out for supper at a place called Apple Bees.
That evening Randal and slept in the “Zoo  Room” as it was decorated with birds, lions and dust.
